About the Author
Gary Conner has over 25 years of manufacturing experience with 15 years dedicated to implementing lean manufacturing in companies of all sizes, from mom-and-pop shops with 10 workers to multinational corporations with 15,000 or more employees.

In his consultancy, Lean Enterprise Training (Newport, Ore.), he has worked in 14 different industries, contracted with over 120 different companies, and facilitated over 400 kaizen projects, training tens of thousands of people in skills such as value stream mapping, setup reduction, 5S, team building, six sigma, and facilities layout planning.

An accomplished ISO 9000 certified lead auditor, Gary is also a college instructor and has authored four textbooks related to world-class manufacturing. In 2002, Gary's first edition of this book, Lean Manufacturing for the Small Shop, received the distinguished Shingo Prize Award. He was also awarded Manufacturer of the Year in 2004 by Chapter 63 of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.

Great read- but not quite a one-size-fits-all

Overall, very good read. The author talks about the benefits of leaning-out a shop, but the risks of trying to take it too far in a smaller shop. He also does a fantastic job discussing the human element of running a production shop.

My complaints are that it is somewhat machine-shop oriented, the software is no longer hosted on his website, and in our (primarily one-off) environment, I'm wondering how useful a Lean strategy is, but there wasn't really a diagnostic for that.

I do highly recommend the book. Even if your shop cannot become lean, it has management advice, insight into reducing waste where possible, and a generic-enough scope that at least half of it will be helpful. The target is 100-10,000 product numbers, if I read right, with recurring processes. We just don't have the recurrence to make it quite as useful as it could be. Any shop with consistent work flow would see more value in this book than the 4 stars I gave it.

Essential guide to No. American Indian artifacts,culture

This is the 6th edition on North American Indian culture and artifacts by a true expert. It contains thousands of photos, mostly black and white, with some in full color. Lots of data on dozens of topics from arrowheads to pottery, baskets, beadwork, clothing, toys, weavings and jewelry. It includes a handy directory of dealers in Indian materials, arranged by state. Most items shown include their approximate value. A worthwhile addition to the library of everyone interested in North American Indian culture. Not just a picture-price guide, but a valuable reference.

Another must-have for the Artifact collector

I just wrote a review of the 12th Edition of the Overstreet Identification and Price Guide to Indian Arrowheads and mentioned the fact that a serious collector needs a number of different tools in his or her arsenal. Way before a loup�, an expensive (get them used lol) stereo laboratory-grade microscope (with great lighting), or $1,200 in your pocket on your way to an artifact show in your home town, you need two things. The Overstreet book (for ID as much as for pricing) and this book. In many ways -- especially when you expand your collection into beads, hardstone (like bannerheads), pottery, to clothing and to jewelry (including contemporary), this is a more meaningful and useful work. If you consider your collection more than an interesting hobby, and when you consider the pace at which the value of a typical high-grade artifact is growing, you should, the book will pay for itself 12 times a year. I strongly recommend this excellent reference resource.

With his reward, he buys a farm and, later, gives the scratched toy to his youngest son. The vigorous text seamlessly incorporates elements of Swedish folklore. The colored-pencil illustrations are similar in style to Jan Brett's work, including borders and decorative detail, but with a pastel palette; a lighter, sketchier line; and more sense of movement. The blues, tans, and reds effectively evoke the setting, as do the details such as carved, decorated furniture; painted pottery; and embroidered and appliqued clothing. The borders extend the illustrations by depicting the farm, mountains, bewreathed horses, and trolls in pugnacious postures. A Wonderful Book

My heritage is 100% Swedish. It is difficult for me to find books about Swedish culture in general, and close to impossible to find Swedish stories to which my seven-year old son can relate.
I believe each cultural has its own beauty and much to offer the world. I often encounter people assuming that because we speak English and are Lutheran, then our cultural heritage is the same as Britain's (we're are not Anglo-Saxons, the Church of England has nothing to do with Scandinavia, and our native tongue is Swedish) or since Swedish is a Germanic language, then our culture must be like the Germans'. Like every other society that has evolved on its own, the Swedes are proud of who they are and how they came to be.
I remember Dala horses all over my grandparents' homes and in my house growing up as well. I want very much for my son to enjoy the richness of where his family comes from, and why we still remain so close to our relatives in "the old country." This is simply a wonderful book that has aided in giving my son his own cultural identity.
I am very grateful that this book is so Swedish. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for new perspectives about the smaller European nations.

One of my son's favorites

This book so captured our imaginations that I had to purchase a little wooden Dala horse for our son. The artwork is beautiful, the story is culturally sensitive, the scenes are exciting and the language is rich. I've been reading this book to my son since he was two. He's four, now, and still loves it!

Exceeds my expectations. Excellent reference book. Even though this is an older book, much of the information is still relevant. Recommend this book for amateur archeologists and relic collectors.

Be advised...

This is an important landmark book for studies of early man in America. It is still in the bibliography of hundreds of recent publications. However, be advised that copies listed and identified as 4th, 5th, and even 6th editions are exactly the same. The Denver Museum continued for years to reprint the 4th edition of 1957 when they should have made it clear that they were not new editions, but merely reprintings. Even the cover of the paperback is exactly the same. The book was originally published in 1939 and apparently had a 2nd and 3rd edition, what ever that means! The author completely rewrote it 18 years later and that is the 4th edition (1957).

the great wisdom traditions

Cohering the Integral We Space (Gunnlaugson and Brabant, Eds., 2016) is the first book dedicated specifically to this topic and is a significant contribution to naming and shaping the emerging field of study and practice of Integral We Space. The term describes a practice, a type of group process, and a state of consciousness that points to a potential collective stage of consciousness in human evolution. Developmental and integral theorists and practitioners have been exploring group meditative states and intersubjective practice for years, however only over the past few years has the term We Space begun to denote a specific body of work shared by these early explorers, the authors of these chapters.

A basic understanding of integral theory would be helpful for readers, although it is not necessary. Those drawn to read this book likely have a natural curiosity for collective consciousness and how exploring collective practices, states, and ultimately stages may hold a key to unlocking our planetary predicament. Each of the contributing authors have generously devoted their life’s work to experiencing and uncovering the intelligence and ways of knowing that lie waiting in the intersubjective field, the space between, relational space, or the knowing field.

In addition to integral theory as a shared foundation, authors of these pages draw up on a wide range of backgrounds such as organizational leadership, dialogue studies, the great wisdom traditions, developmental theory, action research, and psychology to name a few. They have devoted their rich and diverse backgrounds to contemplating a shared question, written in a multitude of ways, yet all carrying a common essence of “what if the responsibility for humanity to navigate this time in history rested on the shoulders of those interested and capable of breaking through to a new stage in our collective evolution (Martineau and Martineau, p. 169) or what if “it might be possible to connect with others in a fresh and powerful mode of coherent intersubjective relatedness such that our subtle energetic field dynamics might coincide with a larger, non-linear, self-correcting and self-harmonizing intelligence”? (Patten, p. 232). Yes! If, like me, a resounding “yes” erupts from within you when reading these inquiries, then this book is a Must Read for you!

Upon reading this book I am left with gratitude for the work of the contributing authors and for the wisdom of the editors in bringing coherence to this newly forming field. I am also left with urgency and hope for what We Space practices might hold in store as the “next stage of evolution for human systems” (Hamilton, Douglas, Beck, Aurami, Arnott, & Shore, p. 141).

Cohering the We Space
I greatly appreciate this excellent collection of very valuable and timely essays covering a broad diversity of perspectives and insights from this very exciting emergent field of human evolution. I can’t imagine anything more important for us to be actively exploring at this critical stage in our development. Finding deeper ways of connecting and being together to amplify our collective capacities to work with emergence, witness patterns and structures of collective conditioning - essential steps in our journey to become more whole.
It is very encouraging to observe how these collective fields of practice are becoming more established and are evolving very clear practices , injunctions and a language that makes it more accessible for others to come together to form these very powerful and insightful spaces. Cohering the We Space is an immensely valuable resource for anyone who is either a committed practitioner and wants to evolve their practice space or for those who are opening up to the realisation that we have to move beyond our old stuck patterns of response and want to explore new ways of being together. There is a great generosity in each of the diverse individual contributions -a striving to really communicate something that is only deeply felt and understood through direct experience and a striving to communicate this with the reader.
While this book may be of interest to integral practitioners of the we space I think it also has a lot to offer to anyone interested in facilitating or working with groups and is open to exploring more effective ways of being together and evolving the collective container. As a professional in group work I have applied many of the we space injunctions with conventional groups and without being necessarily too prescriptive, have succeeded in facilitating a more unified field of engagement, generating lots of positive energy and creative insights. I would highly recommend this book to anyone working with groups who is interested in pushing the edge and opening to new levels of collective coherence.
