Klaus Schwab, the founder and executive chairman of the World Economic Forum states that we stand on the brink of a technological revolution that will fundamentally alter the way we live, work, and relate to one another. In its scale, scope, and complexity, the transformation will be unlike anything humankind has experienced before. Klaus is describing the Fourth Industrial Revolution or the digital revolution that has been occurring since the middle of the last century. It is characterized by a fusion of technologies that is blurring the lines between the physical, digital, and biological spheres. In order to make this point, the author Jay Zaidi has labeled the Fourth Industrial Revolution the “Age of Data.”
Organizations are being forced to undergo a digital transformation and this is creating a tumultuous period of change for them. Those that wish to win with data must implement a data culture - a complex undertaking. It requires an in-depth understanding of the data ecosystem, its components, and the interaction between people, process, technology, and data, to deliver business value.
Data-Driven Leaders Always Win connects the dots across various data management fields, and their practical application, using real life experience that the author gained while leading enterprise-wide data management programs at the world's largest financial services company. Being data-savvy and data-driven are core skills for leaders and their organizations to win in the "Age of Data".
Regardless of the industry vertical you are in - if you are a leader, aspire to be one, or wish to influence your leadership team, and move up the corporate ladder in the "Age of Data", then this book is for you.

- Data Driven Leaders Always Win The Essential Guide for Leaders in the Age of Data
Review
“As the first financial services executive to hire a Chief Data Officer, this book is a must read for ANY executive seeking to improve operations, gain a deep understanding of client needs and gain a competitive advantage.” - Ed Watson, Former EVP & Head of Operations and Technology, Fannie Mae
“Part inspiration, part information, and part innovation, Jay Zaidi's book challenges business and IT leaders to think broadly and act collectively about data's role within their organization. He provides an in-the-trenches perspective on nearly all facets of making data behave as a high-value enterprise asset.” - Douglas Laney, VP and Distinguished Analyst, Data and Analytics Strategy, Gartner
”As data continues to grow and evolve, the enormous challenge of managing it is often minimized and misunderstood. Becoming data-driven requires changing the culture within an organization. This book provides a practical guide on how to tackle some of the more significant challenges, as experienced first-hand by the author, Jay Zaidi. I highly recommend this book for all Business and IT leaders, since data is integral to everything we do!” - Beth Hiatt, COO, Unissant & Former CDO, Fannie Mae
”Data is the new currency that will drive business and regulatory compliance strategy. The root cause of many company ailments is how data is managed. Jay does a great job highlighting the techniques and approaches to solve complex problems and achieve corporate strategies in the age of data.” - Ray Vazquez, CEO, Infinitive Insight
”Corporate data initiatives fail because the technical team is unable to communicate clearly the business value that can be derived from harnessing the power of their data. In his book, Jay has done a great job of bridging the IT/Business gap by breaking through the technical jargon and clearly articulating the business case for investment in data as a corporate asset. This is crucial for both competitive advantage, as well as, ensuring compliance in today's highly regulated environment.” -Kathy Keller, Managing Director, Newbold Advisors, LLC
“Data-driven leaders must empower their teams to deliver on the business's need for near real time analytics across small and big data. In Data-Driven Leaders Always Win, Jay Zaidi makes a case for investing in foundational capabilities like a data catalog, master data management, data quality and data governance. The emergence of new self-service data tools and approaches is making it possible for everyone in the enterprise to leverage data, to make better decisions and achieve better business outcomes.” - Alex Gorelik, CEO, Waterline Data
“In his aptly named book, Jay Zaidi makes the basic argument that being 'Data-Driven' has less to do with having a lot of big data and more to do with understanding and analyzing the context around the data you have. Jay thoughtfully explains that data, like any other form of information, cannot be taken at face value and that being 'Data-Driven' isn't just about cycling data though your organization; it's about making sure that people are able to both quickly find the right data and place that data in the appropriate context.” - Satyen Sangani, Co-founder and CEO, Alation
“Data-driven organizations aim for frictionless data processing to significantly reduce time-to-value. In Data-Driven Leaders Always Win, Jay highlights the fact that IT and Business teams can achieve their common goals by utilizing new technology and refining their data management processes.” - Adam Wilson, CEO, Trifacta
“Today, every organization is in the data business, and every business needs data-driven leaders. This book introduces you to the most important and demanding areas of information management and provides practical insight into how you can use data to rapidly rise and ultimately win.” - Greg Steffine, BI Strategist and Award-Winning Author
“According to Alibaba’s Jack Ma, data will become the biggest production material in the future, it will become a public resource like water, electricity and oil. This has resulted in a paradigm shift in data management. In this timely and insightful book, Jay has done an excellent job outlining the business case and presenting practical steps to help leaders develop a data culture within their organizations.” - Samra Sulaiman, Founder, ConsultData LLC
From the Author
Data is at the heart of every organisation's operation and leaders have to become data-savvy to win with data. I've wanted to write a book on Data-Driven Management for several years, but professional duties and other constraints prevented that.
This book is the product of 2 years of research and writing. My objective was to share observations, insights, and experiences gained leading enterprise data and information management programs at the world's largest financial services firm for thirteen years, and connecting some dots in the process, my hope is that you will gain information that will help you realise the true value of data, become a data evangelist in your organisation, and influence your peers and senior management to strategically invest in data management and data science, with the goal of becoming a data-driven organisation.
Use the information provided in this book and the questions raised, to trigger a debate within your organisation on what your level of data management and data science maturity is and what steps you must take to implement a data culture.

An Easy Read Book that would help you realize the importance of data in your organization!
By Anupam Chandra (AC)
Jay has done an excellent job in bringing the importance of data into the limelight for leaders. Often, data is taken for granted by leaders of an organization only summoned when important decisions need to be made. However, this book points out the reasons why data deserves a more important seat at the table, how its quality needs to be maintained and why companies need to invest in a good strategy for managing their data. The book provides some insight for the leaders to create an organization for managing their data that goes beyond just archiving and retrieval, how to mitigate some of the data management challenges and finally how to build a data-driven company.
The book is written with leaders in mind and has just enough technical details to make it an easy read for the executives responsible for making their organizations a success.

A must for senior management, policy makers, line managers, and data & systems analysts.

I am a Controller and Accountant by trade and deal with data all day long. I bought this book to learn about managing data strategically. I just finished reading the chapters related to why big data investments fail and the key ingredients to creating a data-driven company and can't wait to finish the rest of the book. In today's world of big data and internet-of-things, data volumes have risen by many folds, but having the right set of data, linking them intelligently, and generating deep insight from it, is still a challenge that most organizations are facing. The author has done an excellent job of explaining data management concepts and highlighting the techniques to solve complex problems while ensuring compliance in today's highly regulated environment.

Excellent book for corporate officers, executives, managers and leaders
By Ramesh Dontha
I bought this book as there is a lot of information out there on the web about data and the importance of data for current day leaders but nothing that is very comprehensive. I wasn't disappointed after I bought the book. It is very comprehensive in scope and and the coverage was balanced and realistic. The author came across as someone with extensive background in data management areas and the content really showcased his expertise. Even though I wasn't expecting it, I was surprised that the book covered latest trends with IOT and Big Data and how data plays a significant role in these areas. It had detailed discussion on maturity models, guiding principles, and change management that I could walk away ready to implement in my practice areas. Overall, very happy both the book. I don't do many online reviews but I thought this book earned it.
